Sheffield: England’s __th biggest city

Posted in Uncategorized by James Benedict Brown on 18 December, 2006

Here’s a teaser shamelessly lifted from last Saturday’s Independent magazine quiz to test how well you know your British cities. Place the following cities in order of their population size:

  • Birmingham
  • Bradford
  • Bristol
  • Edinburgh
  • Glasgow
  • Leeds
  • Liverpool
  • London
  • Manchester
  • Sheffield

I’ll post the answer in the first comment after this post.

    London 7,429,200
    Birmingham 992,400
    Leeds 719,600
    Glasgow 577,670
    Sheffield 516,100
    Bradford 481,100
    Edinburgh 453,670
    Liverpool 444,500
    Manchester 437,000
    Bristol 393,900

That should ruffle some feathers either side of the Pennines. So to clarify any pub quiz cock-ups, Sheffield is still the fourth largest city in England but the fifth largest in Britain.
